How to Make a Morning Yoga Routine that Sticks

Now that kids are back in school, we’re given the blessing (for some the curse) of morning routines. While most parents elect to have routine habits which speed the morning up in an attempt to take less time to leave, one has made my existence a lot smoother, the morning yoga routine. Today I am going to go over the wonderful ways to make your morning yoga routine stick.

How to Make a Morning Yoga Routine that Sticks: It’s Not Easy So Why Try?

I get it. The kids are everywhere, the spouse can’t watch them, the boyfriend can’t find his socks, I' woke up too late, oops there’s a meeting I need to attend, etc. There are a million excuses we give ourselves to get out of scheduling self-care. To keep our sanity and to balance our daily lives without having a mental breakdown, we need to have a self-care routine. Part of mine is a brief set of five poses I feel like doing in the morning. It’s not elaborate but it works. On top of that, if one does this with the household, they receive the benefits. All the sudden you’ll find that you are not as annoyed with them and they are not nearly as stressed too.

How to Make a Morning Yoga Routine that Sticks: Set Up Your Environment

I may not wake up first, but I am one of the first who have been downstairs. Because of this, I can change the lighting or turn on some peaceful nature sounds. Far too often, the chaos can be quelled by using different extras we used to do. Look around and see what the overall feel of the house is like. Do you even like the way that trinket you bought at a gift shop three years ago or could it be removed? Set up your living space to not keep up with the Jones’ but, to create a healing space for your family to retreat to.

HOW TO MAKE A MORNING YOGA ROUTINE THAT STICKS: ASK HOW EVERYONE IS FEELING

Is your stomach in knots in the morning from stress? Does your significant other have back pain? It is very important to communicate so that you know which poses you need. The reason is that there are many yoga poses which can be done but may not be what your body needs. The purpose of this is to give you an opportunity to work on movement, have moments of stillness to reflect, or a combination of the two to keep your mind/body moving.

HOW TO MAKE A MORNING YOGA ROUTINE THAT STICKS: MINE LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN YOURS

The important part of yoga routines in the morning is to give you the opportunity to create a morning self-care routine. It sounds strange when people first start to hear what yoga actually is or what all yoga can encompass. Yoga is a practice the unifies the mind, soul, and body as one with the divine consciousness of the universe.
