Love and Hatred, Learning How to Deal with ASD and Aesthetics as an Aesthetician

Updated: Apr 30

I am one odd aesthetician. This is the consensus from my clients, ex-bosses, and more than likely every person that meets me. Why? Well, that is one huge elephant in the room that I don’t like discussing. Why? Because when you tell people you are on the spectrum, that you have autism, they tend to think of the worst possible circumstances. Yes, I have ASD and this post it to explain why/how I am so different than others in my field. First Off I get it. This post is a cold slap of reality in the face because when we admit to people my medical conditions, we get a spectrum of responses. I have been clinically diagnosed for a year now and this is the first time I have publically come out of the closet so to speak. Why? Oh because social anxiety is a real issue when your entire professional image is on the line. Because I am typing this hoping that in discussing my medical conditions with you, you will better understand that people with Autism live with a spectrum of different symptoms. We really aren’t the same puzzle cookie and I have found more pain than acceptance for what I can actually do because of it.
