Battle Symphony: Overcoming the Stigma of Autism in 2020

One of the things that is a huge problem in society is the stigma of autism and other neurodiverse disorders. With Autism Awareness Month coming in April, I am choosing to promote #redinstead and #autisticgold centered memes. Why? Battle Symphony: Overcoming the Stigma of Autism in 2020: Why? Well, why is a group of people discriminated against? LGBTQ+, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Disabled Americans, Veterans, etc. are people who are openly and actively discriminated against. It is a sad truth that has led to several civil movements throughout our history. The newest one is coming on April 1 and 2nd this year being created by Our Golden Moment.

April 1st and 2nd, 2020, will be the inaugural year for Our Golden Moment as global autism coming out day. We look forward to many more, annually, going forward. Consider this the new date for us to “unmask” our whole selves, for us to shine, dispelling stereotypes and sharing the gold of our unique abilities with the society.-Our Golden Moment Battle Symphony: Overcoming the Stigma of Autism in 2020: Why Do Autistics Need a Coming Out Day? Start the pride parade fanfare in everyone’s minds since the LGBTQ+ community is the biggest party-throwing group of the crowd. Why? With all the misinformation and truly fake news that has been spread by people who didn’t have autism, we need to vocally communicate exactly what our experiences are. This allows the neurotypical to truly understand the beauty that is within and end the stigma.

BATTLE SYMPHONY: OVERCOMING THE STIGMA OF AUTISM: TAKING BACK APRIL FOOL’S DAY April Fool’s Day is not like most of our holidays, it is actually built upon a typical autistic response to change in routine. When everyone decided that the Julian calendar was going to be switched over to the Gregorian calendar, the first day of the new year changed. The “April Fool’s” were the people who continued to try to celebrate the beginning of the year in April instead of January. This April 1st will see Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. with #redinstead to mark it as a day of kindness. BATTLE SYMPHONY: OVERCOMING THE STIGMA OF AUTISM: APRIL 2ND, AUTISM AWARENESS DAY I know, it seems silly when the entire month is Autism Awareness Month to have an Autism Awareness Day. The reason behind this is that the Global Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd. This will be the day that if anyone who is autistic receives bullying behavior, all they will need to do is post #OGMassist to their social media profile of choice so that the rest of us can give support however we can. This is highly important because autistics have seen a jump in suicides in the last 20 years.
